The Midwest Graduate Music Consortium (MGMC) is a joint venture organized by graduate students from Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. MGMC encourages the presentation of original research and the composition of new music by graduate and advanced undergraduate students. Conferences are held annually on a rotating basis in Madison, Chicago, or Evanston.
The 22nd annual meeting of MGMC will be held at Northwestern University from April 27-28, 2018.
This year MGMC will include paper sessions, a new music concert, a keynote address by Olivia Bloechl, University of Pittsburgh, and a workshop led by Alisha Jones, Indiana University. In addition, Professor Jones will be giving a pre-conference talk on Thursday, April 26th, hosted by the Northwestern Musicology Colloquium.
MGMC 2018 will be hosted by the Bienen School of Music. MGMC 2018 is funded in part by a Catalyst grant from The Graduate School at Northwestern University. This event is co-sponsored by the Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities, Northwestern’s Gender and Sexuality Studies Colloquium, and Graduate Leadership and Advocacy Council.
